The mission goes on

He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.

Matthew 13:37-38 (NKJV)

This week we are looking at Marius Gradwell’s sermon on “The Mission Goes On”.

Pastor Marius posed a question to us on Sunday. He asked, “If the Mission did not end with Jesus, the early church, or the believers who lived before you; if the Mission needs to carry on, then where do you see yourself fit into this Mission?”. We as believers need to find out where we are called to fit into the Mission of God. That is, how can we bring Heaven to Earth?

We do this by displaying the love and kindness of God to people in our everyday lives. The book of Acts is filled with everyday, normal people showing love to others. Miracles will come and God will use us in that way, but it always starts by just being good and kind to people, and showing them genuine love. We need to stop underestimating the simple things, because there is power in them.

We are already deployed right where God wants us to be. You might be on your way somewhere, but God wants to use you where you are now. Wherever you go, people will engage with you because of what they see on the outside. Whether that be your job, your abilities or your character. What they will get is the seed within you. In the ordinary ways we interact with people they will receive what we have inside us. We just need to be ready to share it.

Reflect:

  • Where do you see yourself fit into the Mission of God?
  • Who is around you that you can show love and kindness to?
  • What can you do to show love and kindness to them?
  • What will you share with someone who asks you why you are doing these things for them?
