The Call Of Discipleship

Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:25-27 (NKJV)

This week we will be revisiting Pastor Louis’ sermon from this Sunday titled “The Call of Discipleship.” Ps Louis shared that there are three components to discipleship:
• The Relational Component
• The Cost Component
• The Battle Component

He shared more in depth on the first component: the relational component. According to Dr Tim Keller, there are five important aspects to Discipleship:
• It is Not Optional – It is a command to every single person who wants to be a follower of Jesus
• It is Not Negotiable – God determines what Discipleship looks like; not us!
• It is Emotional – we can’t just engage with God because we know it’s right. We need to engage with him because we love Him!
• It is Positional – we need to live in and through Jesus Christ.
• It is Final – discipleship is not something we can do some days and not others. It is permanent.

Finally, God has blessings for us. Not just physical, but also spiritual. He wants to bless us abundantly. However, He doesn’t want us to hoard our blessings. He blesses us to be a blessing to a lost and dead world.

• How can you better engage in discipleship?
• Where do you need to realign with the way God says you should do discipleship?
• Who can you walk with that can help you take your discipleship journey to the next level?
