The Reason For Things

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.

1 John 1:1-4

This week we will be looking at the word that Ps Louis shared on Sunday titled ‘The Reason for Things’.

Firstly, we need to recognise the three different types of purpose: Primary Purpose, General Purpose and Specific Purpose. Primary Purpose is the purpose of God, General Purpose is to bring God glory and advance His kingdom and Specific Purpose is the specific way in which we are called to impact the world. We need to understand these purposes in the correct order so that we can live in God’s will for our lives.

Secondly, when we understand purpose, we get motivation. It instills in us a message, a mandate, a ministry and a mission. A message of the Good News and of Grace, a mandate to make disciples with a desire to follow Jesus, a ministry to share the Word of God, and a mission to share our deep relationship with Jesus with those we meet.

Finally, we can see the real manifestation of God’s power. When we believe what He says and obey what He asks we will see the impossible in our lives.

  • Which of the three purposes do you need to align with? (Primary, General or Specific)
  • Which area of motivation do you need to step out in?
  • What manifestation do you believe God wants to bring about in and through your life?
